St Cloud Scoots Big Ride/Campout 2010

Postby Dibber » Mon Dec 14, 2009 7:41 pm

When:June 12 & 13, 2010
Where:Crosslake, MN
What Class Of Scooter:125cc or larger.
This summer I have reserved two campsites at the US Army Corps of Engineers Crosslake Recreation Area. Where is Crosslake you ask? About 25 miles NE of Brainerd on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes. This is a very nice campground located on Crosslake and downtown Crosslake. Pine Peaks Lodge is located across the street and a parking lot from the campground. We have reserved sites 22 and 21. Jill and I will have our RV in site 22 electric and can support one extra tent while Site 21 is non-electric and can support 2 tents. Like last year first to respond to me first get into a site. (Currently two tent sites are still available). After the sites are full you will be responsible to get/reserve your own sites. Motel reservation is on your own as well. Crosslake area is surrounded by lakes and great riding on roads less travel. We plan on riding to the campground set up camp and ride some more. There is live music in their city park, nice shopping for those who wish to shop to include many eating facilities and ice cream/candy shops. Zorbaz Pizza is walking distance from the campground. We will be visiting Nisswa on this trip a fun tourist town. I would like to leave the St Cloud area by mid-to-early morning on Saturday, June 12th. Departure location is to be determined. More is to come in the near future.
Pine Peaks Lodge - 888-488-7829
Crosslake Campground - http://www.reserveusa.com or 1-877-833-6777
Note: the campsites have a 2 day minimum stay so we reserved them for Friday and Saturday night June 11 & 12. We plan on going up on Friday with the RV and Car and return on Saturday to pick up the scoots for the Saturday Ride. All participants are welcome to come up on Friday if they wish too, the sites will be reserved starting on Friday check-in @ 1p.m. The cost of the non- electric site is $40.00 to be split by 2 tents. Here are some pictures of this beautiful area. Feel free to PM me if you have questions or want to claim a site (Again First Come First Get!!!)

As usual Dibber, you set up great rides. I'll see if I can make it to this one.

Update on this ride.
I have found 2 routes to get us to Cross Lake. Route 1 is a shorter and more direct route and Route 2 is a much longer and more touristy route. The routes will be determine with the weather in mind and by riders choice.
Both routes will depart at Perkins in the Pines, by Golden Spike Rd/2nd St No and Hwy 10 in Sauk Rapids. There is also a Holiday Station for last minute gas and goodies.
Route 1 will take us to Rice riding the east side of Hwy 10 then north until we catch Hwy 45 (east of Little Falls) to Brainerd and then Hwy 3 from east Brainerd to Cross Lake.
Route 2 will take us to Little Falls using the River Road going north to Camp Ripley and then riding the west boundary road of Camp Ripley, riding further north to west side of Gull Lake to Nisswa then meandering east to Cross Lake all by small county type roads.
Which ever ride we take it will be a fun ride.
"Still two tent sites available"!

Check out www.modernbuddy.com and in their general forum section is a "Camping" article with lots of pictures and information on scooter camping. Some of these people really travel. One guy did a run from Chicago to Alaska (almost). Scooterworks.com has saddlebags on sale for $70. It won't be long and we'll be heading up to Cross Lake. Be Seeing ya, Dibber.

Dear Dibber(s),

Is the spot next to your motorhome still available. I'd like to camp but need a plug in for my trusty riding partner CPAP. Or do all sites have access to power?

You are welcomed to pitch you tent next to the RV. That is the only electric site of the two sites we reserved. So far we have 1 tent site left in the non-electric site. We are filling up for the ride with at least 6 scooters so far. This will be a great ride!

Dibbers,
Thank you for your kind offer. I can get everything on the scooter...except the karaoke machine and the sub woofer. I love camping. Nature is so cool.

Just want to get in touch with all who are interested and those who have committed to go. So far we still have 1 tent site open out of the 2 sites reserved (2 tents per site). For those who committed, and you know who you are, please let me know if you still plan to attend. You can PM me or reply to this post. If we loose anyone, I will need to cancel one of the sites by Tuesday, June 8th so I don't have to pay for an empty site. The scenic ride out there is going to be a nice ride. I'm estimating it to be around 120+/- miles  . Return ride is more direct back to Sauk Rapids and shorter.

Lunch - Will be provided by the Dibbers with hot dogs, chips, and bean at the RV.
Afternoon - A ride through lake country to Nisswa and back.
Dinner - At Zorbaz in Crosslake easy walk from the campground.
Evening - We are open to a concert in the park (some nice store to include a candy/ice cream parlor :P at the park), hanging out at the campground with a fire, or even another shorter ride.

Starting Point: O'Riellys Auto Part & Super America's parking lot at the intersection of Benton Drive & 2nd Street No in Sauk Rapids, MN. Departing at 9:00AM.

I believe it was like $24.00 day for electric so around $12.00. Not bad!
